To me, having the freedom to teach means that yes, I do have a set of state standards to use as my guidelines to teach.
However, I am able to implement the knowledge that I gained throughout my own personal experiences in elementary, secondary, and college schooling to actively engage my students. My hope for them is that they enjoy science class and learn about the world around them. Ultimately, I want them to understand their role in their environment and feel like they have the power to be a voice of change and/or do something to make the world better, even if it is something small.

I love how you discuss that you want your students to feel like they have the power to be a voice of change! Empowering students is such an important part of teaching!

The freedom to teach means that I am free to teach all students that I work with , in an equitable manner .
I have the freedom and autonomy to teach students in a manner that that respects all cultures, ethnicities , and genders. I decide what is best for my students and I can use data, classroom observation , and professional expertise to determine the best course of action regarding my student's instruction.

Great points! Thank you for participating in the discussion!

Freedom to teach to me means that I do what is best for MY KIDS!
Some days it may be the content that I had planned, other days it may be answering a million questions that they have. Sometimes it’s just letting them eat, and holding them while they cry. WHATEVER THEY NEED.

Thank you so much taking the time to share!

Thanks for participating in the discussion, Judy!

Freedom to teach means to me that students have access to content and can express their ideas freely.
All students should feel valued an able to grow and learn in the environment without fear.

Good point! Thanks for sharing!

I love your points on pursuing knowledge and fostering collaboration! Thanks for sharing!

The Freedom to Teach means that teachers may teach to the children they are serving in a way that reaches those students.
No single one technique can reach every person young or old. Teachers should be able to use methods and resources that work best for them.

I agree, the idea that we can standardize one technique to be used by all teachers is nonsense. Teachers must have the freedom to use their perception to determine the best technique for that particular student or classroom. Thanks for participating!
